The South Winnipeg Community Centre (SWCC), Richmond Site, came alive on Saturday, October 18, 2025, with a dazzling Diwali Celebration that brought together families, friends, and neighbours from across the community. In his address, he highlighted the message of Diwali—the triumph of good over evil—and appreciated the contributions of the South Winnipeg community in building a strong and inclusive society. He expressed his gratitude to the organizers and volunteers for their dedication and noted that he would soon be celebrating his 10th year as a Member of Parliament.

He praised his team for their commitment to representing Manitoba’s diverse communities and supporting inclusive governance.
The cultural performances that followed showcased the incredible talent of local artists and children. The evening began with a delightful dance by the Little Champs, who charmed the audience with their energy and smiles. This was followed by a soulful Punjabi solo, “Nahin Janna,” and an energetic Bhangra performance by Ranbir, a student of Nishan Academy, who impressed everyone with her lively moves.
Adding to the musical highlights, Aashad captivated the audience with a melodious Bollywood classic, “Jane Jaan Dhoondta Phir Raha.” His smooth vocals and heartfelt rendition received a big round of applause, leaving the audience deeply moved and humming along.
The Swagtam Team presented a graceful “Swagtam Vandana,” performed confidently by young children, earning loud applause. Senior Punjabi poet Mr. Kuldeep Singh captivated the audience with his poetic recitation “Chhadho Chagrey Chamaile, Pyar Wale Geet Ga Ke Waikh Lo.” Performers from Sangam Academy filled the hall with the beats of Punjabi folk songs and entertaining Bollian, while Sardar Parveen Singh Sekhon had everyone laughing with his humour and Urdu poetry, including the beloved Yamla Jatt classic “Dus Mein Ki Pyar Wichon Khattya.”
Adding a poetic touch to the evening, Sardar Ranjit Singh Brar recited his original Diwali poem, “Mainu Pata Diwali Hai,” which beautifully captured the festive spirit of the night. The event concluded with heartfelt thanks from Ms. Nitu Sidhu, one of the main organizers, who expressed gratitude to all attendees, volunteers, parents, performers, and dignitaries. She also acknowledged Mr. Scott, the Director of the South Winnipeg Community Centre, for his continued support and assistance in making the event a success.
Guests enjoyed delicious snacks and drinks, and the hall’s elegant décor and comfortable seating created a warm, festive atmosphere perfect for families to connect and celebrate together.
The evening truly embodied the spirit of Diwali – the victory of light over darkness, unity over division, and joy over despair. It was a celebration that reflected not only cultural richness but also the strong sense of community that makes Winnipeg shine bright.
Happy Diwali to all – may your year be filled with light, love, and happiness!
